1. Schindler’s List Learning Objective: LEARN EACH PHASE OF THE HOLOCAUST. The goal is to learn history. There is no better way to learn every phase of the Holocaust than by watching Schindler’s List. If anyone asks what you are learning from watching a movie, the answer is “we are learning the COMPLETE history of the Holocaust.” Also if anyone asks this is EDITED for appropriate content. Most important, be aware there is violence and inappropriate language in this film. If your parents object, then just send me an email and we will work out an alternative. It may also be a great experience to watch with your parents and learn together.

3. Major Characters:
Oscar Schindler: a life-long failed German businessman from the Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia. He has amazing social skills and personality which he uses to manipulate people to gain his way, but his love of alcohol and beautiful women have a much higher priority. He lacks the intelligence and focus for business success, but he wants to enjoy the benefits of being rich.
Amon Goeth: the SS officer sent to liquidate the Krakow Ghetto, build a labor camp, and determine which Jews are worthy of saving for labor and which should be sent to the nearby death camp at Auschwitz. He desires to have the social skills and charm of Schindler. He desires to be as popular as Schindler. He desires to have women like Schindler. He questions whether it is better to be loved or feared…BUT in the end he is an SS Officer and a Nazi…a true believer.
Itzhak Stern: a Jewish accountant with the intelligence and business focus which Schindler needs for success, but his integrity is disgusted by the idea of helping a member of the Nazi party gain wealth…until he realizes he can use his position as Schindler’s accountant to ease the pain and suffering of his fellow Jews during the Holocaust.
